History

There are many different writers throughout the whole world that have influenced our American culture. That is why I narrowed my search to Filipino writers. It was said that Filipinos are so talented in writing that their national heroes used the pen as a weapon to fight during the war instead of other forms of deadly weapons, which resulted national hero's to write and wrote to express what Filipinos felt about the war.

Americans actually influenced the Philippines, it was primarily the Spanish American War and the ceding of the Philippines. The writers began to use English as their expression because it was the medium of instruction in all schools and was preferred among intellectual elite. For the Filipino's to learn English and Spanish, it helped educate them to become more contact with the humanistic and scientific works of the most advanced countries of the world. While Filipinos were learning with American textbook, instructors, and writers, they started to learn not only a new language but a new life form in their traditions.

Knowing a little big of the Filipino culture of how Americans help develop Filipino literature, can make you appreciate our American culture. It makes you realize that we Americans are having a big influence on other cultures.
